DISH Spine Treatment

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, known as DISH, is the calcification (bony hardening) of ligaments in some areas where they attach to the spine. It is a form of degenerative arthritis or osteoarthritis. There is no specific cure for DISH, but steps can be taken to reduce the pain and stiffness that comes with it. Treatment keeps the condition from worsening and prevents further complications.
1.      Treating the pain: DISH spine treatment, and especially treatment of pain caused by it, is similar to other joint ailments. Doctor usually recommend acetaminophen or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen. More severe pain can be treated with corticosteroid injections. There are spine clinics in Delhi, as well as spine hospitals in Delhi where such treatment can be pursued.

2.      Treating stiffness: Physiotherapy is advised by medical professionals to treat stiffness that comes with DISH. Physiotherapy is quite a popular form of spine treatment, and increase the range of motion that has been obstructed by the ailment. A physiotherapist is a trained professional who’ll provide you with sets of exercises, and help you perform them. There are quite many physiotherapy centres in Delhi and NCR.

3.      Surgery: Surgery is the last treatment option available for DISH, is required in rare cases. This usually happens when severe complications arise because of DISH. People who require surgery include those who have difficulty swallowing as the calcification has formed bone spurs in the neck, and those which are suffering from pressure on the spinal cord from such spurs.
