Ectopic Pregnancy and Its Treatment with Laparoscopic Surgery in India

Introduction

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg attaches itself to a place somewhere other than the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are also called tubal pregnancies because they almost always occur in the fallopian tubes. As the fallopian tubes are not developed for a growing embryo, a pregnancy in the tubes has to be treated or it can be dangerous for the woman. Chances of an ectopic pregnancies are 1 in 50.

What Are the Causes of Ectopic Pregnancy?

Ectopic pregnancies can be caused due to several reasons, including:

  • An infection or inflammation of the fallopian tubes, which can cause them to be entirely or partially blocked.
  • Scar tissue from a previous infection or a surgical procedure on the tube, which may impede the movement of the egg.
  • Adhesions from previous surgeries in the pelvic area or on the fallopian tubes.
  • Birth defects (in the woman) or abnormal growth of the tube which can result in abnormal shape of the tube.

Treatment with Laparoscopy in India

Laparoscopic surgery is one of the popular modern treatments for an ectopic surgery as it reduces recovery time by a margin as opposed to a traditional surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. The surgeon uses a laparoscope to remove the ectopic pregnancy and repair or remove the affected fallopian tube. There’s another procedure called laparotomy which involves laparoscopy. You can find laparoscopic treatment in certain super-speciality hospitals in India. You can find such a hospital in Darbhanga in Bihar. You can find experienced gynaecologists in the specialized gynaecology hospital in Darbhanga which can handle everything from urinary tract infection treatment to ovarian cancer.
